Community Health Care

A long-time health care professional and former Chinatown social worker, Assemblyman Yee believes that locally-delivered, community-based health care gives the highest quality care at the lowest cost. Throughout his career, he has strongly supported San Francisco's community health care system.

  • Saved Community Clinics.
    Helped save the Sunset Community Health Clinic, fought to preserve funding in state budget for community health care clinics such as On Lok Senior Services, and elped save $2.6 million in state grants for San Francisco's mentally ill adults and children, despite drastic state budget cuts

  • Combating Hepatitis B.
    Joined with San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, the San Francisco Department of Public Health and the Stanford Asian Liver Center to begin the "3 for Life" project, which will offer hepatitis B testing and vaccination at a discounted price.

  • Annual Health Fair.
    Joined with San Francisco Supervisor Jake McGoldrick, Kaiser Permanente, Compassionate Community Care, and On Lok Senior Health Services to sponsor the 2nd Annual Richmond District Community Health Fair to educate residents about health issues and services

  • Laguna Honda Hospital.
    Supported bond measure to rebuild Laguna Honda, and recently held public hearing, along with San Francisco Supervisors, to solve safety problems affecting seniors residing there.

  • Created Wellness Centers.
    As Chair of the Finance Committee, Leland fought for and won funding for San Francisco's first school-based health centers at Lincoln and Balboa High Schools.

  • Provided Assistance for Children's Mental Health.
    Leland won funding and worked with School Department to develop a parent support line - so parents can call and talk to counselors about children's behavior.

  • Funded non-profit community clinics.
    As Finance Chair, Leland allocated funding to non-profit community clinics such as the Women's Community Clinic.

  • Helped San Francisco General Hospital.
    A strong advocate of our county hospital, Leland has consistently voted to expand funding and helped obtain additional funding for adult psychiatric services.
