An independent, community-based leader, Leland Yee has been a strong advocate for
open, fiscally responsible government. He has never been part of the old guard
political machine – and has often paid the price for his independence by facing
well-financed attack campaigns funded by corporate special interests seeking to
make politicians tow their company line.

| Helped Pass San Francisco Sunshine Law. Sponsored and
helped passed the Sunshine Ordinance, which gives San Francisco some of the
toughest open government laws in the country.

| Passed Bond Accountability Act. As a Supervisor, Yee
sponsored and passed a law requiring School district & city departments to submit
audited reports of bond fund spending. The School Board has ignored the law.

| Created Largest Rainy Day Budget Ever. Created the
largest rainy day budget in San Francisco as Chair of the Finance Committee.

| Brought Budget Hearings to our Neighborhoods. Leland
was the first Chair of the Finance Committee to hold budget meetings in San
Francisco neighborhoods.

| Citizen Oversight of Bond Spending. Leland co-sponsored
and pass law that provides direct citizen oversight of how school and city bond
monies are spent.

| Fought For Campaign Reforms. Only one of three Supervisors
to vote for tough reforms that prevent unlimited amounts of soft money from special
interests flowing into local campaigns.

| Cleaned Up Red Tape. As Chair of the Finance Committee,
led the battle against overtime and workmen’s compensation abuse, implementing
holdbacks to force greater accountability from departments.

| Upheld bidding requirements for City contracts. Leland
was the only Supervisor to oppose a plan to scrap the low bidder requirement for
certain City contracts.
