Latino Legislators Endorse Leland Yee for Mayor
Cedillo – lead author of Dream Act, Driver’s License bill – among Yee’s supporters
SAN FRANCISCO – Today, several Latino legislators announced their endorsement of Senator Leland Yee for mayor. Among those joining in support of Yee are Senators Alex Padilla, Gloria Negrete McLeod, Ron Calderon, Ed Hernandez, and Juan Vargas, as well as Assemblymember Gil Cedillo. Yee also received the endorsement of the Latino Democratic Club.
Yee has coauthored several bills with the various lawmakers, including Cedillo’s Dream Act legislation and the immigrant driver’s license bill.
“I am honored to have the support of so many of my colleagues, especially these accomplished members of the Legislature,” said Yee. “Together we have fought for our immigrant communities, civil rights, public safety, small businesses, and education. As Mayor, I look forward to continuing to work with them as we improve our schools, create jobs, and build our communities.”
“I support my colleague and friend, Senator Leland Yee for Mayor of San Francisco because of his relentless support for immigrant communities,” said Cedillo. “An immigrant from a very humble background himself, Senator Yee understands the importance of solidarity and the need to fight together to protect our communities from racist policies such as S-COMM.”
“From years of working with Leland in the Assembly as well as in the Senate I have learned how dedicated he is to improving the lives of all Californians,” said Negrete McLeod. “I support Leland Yee for Mayor of San Francisco because not only has he spoken up to increase transparency in our education system, Leland has consistently stood up for the rights of our young people by authoring legislation such as the Fair Sentencing for Youth Act and the Online Voter Registration Bill to encourage our young people to participate in the democratic process.”
Leland Yee is also endorsed by the United Educators of San Francisco, California Nurses Association, Sierra Club, San Francisco Firefighters, AFSCME, SEIU, San Francisco Labor Council, and the San Francisco Building and Construction Trades Council.
“I’ve known Leland for years and I am supporting him for Mayor because no one else will work harder for our community,” said Al Fernandez, MSW, a San Francisco Labor Leader.
