Strengthening rights for disabled Californians
As the fight for equal access for Disabled Persons continues, Leland Yee has been on the front lines. He has been a strong
and consistent voice for strengthening the rights of disabled Californians.
• |
| Disabled Access. Supported legislation promoting better compliance with disability-access laws in public places
by making it easier to impose civil penalties on persons who violate laws requiring access to buildings by disabled individuals
|
• |
| Transit Equity. Helped pass transit equity legislation requiring that ticket vending machines for public transit systems be
equipped with audio instructions for visually impaired persons whenever the machines are improved or replaced
|
• |
| Civil Rights Enforcement. Voted for civil rights legislation that would have expressly stated that the state of California
consents to be sued in state or federal court by any person seeking to enforce rights under the federal Americans with Disabilities
Act. The law was vetoed by Governor Schwarzenegger
